2025 (Spring) Chongqing Culture and Tourism Promotion in Universities Kicking Off

2025-07-07
On April 24, when the poetic charm of Chongqing’s landscapes, the graceful melodies of the guzheng, and the elegance of intangible tea art unexpectedly met the youthful vibrance of university campuses, the “2025 (Spring) Chongqing Culture and Tourism Promotion in Universities and Student Experience Tour” officially kicked off at Chongqing University. The event is a collaborative innovation between universities and local departments, centered on cultural tourism promotion and driven by industry-education integration.

Bringing the Charm of Chongqing Culture and Tourism Directly to Young Students

Building on the “Telling Chongqing’s Stories to the World” brand by the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development, the event was co-launched by Window for International Exchanges of Chongqing Culture & Tourism (WICT) alongside tourism enterprises from districts and counties including Changshou, Liangping, Zhongxian, Shizhu, and Youyang. Through an innovative model of “cultural immersion + scene-based education + industry empowerment”and the platform of universities, it aimed to reach the Gen Z group more deeply by bringing the charm of Chongqing’s culture and tourism directly to young students. By leveraging the strengths of higher education institutions, it actively explored new pathways for cultivating talent in international cultural tourism promotion, injecting fresh youthful vitality into the development of Chongqing’s cultural and tourism industry.

Unlike traditional tourism promotion, this event  was carefully planned around core sections such as “scene-based experience + cultural immersion + tourism promotion + international exchange + online interaction.” It built an innovative collaborative model of “tourism as the bridge, schools and enterprises as co-performers, and youth as co-creators.”

The first stop at Chongqing University featured a thoughtfully designed “Mountain City Cultural Salon” experience zone. The on-site setup offered a blend of dynamic and static displays, including a tea art workshop, traditional music theater, and tourism experience. These interactive and immersive scenes were designed to allow young students to deeply experience and appreciate the rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes of Chongqing.

At the “Nihao! Chongqing” Cultural Tourism Promotion Event, cultural tourism promotion officers from various districts and counties stepped into universities to present their unique  attractions to students. Destinations such as the “Waterside Paradise” Changshou Lake, the “Bamboo Sea Secret Realm” Liangping Bamboo Forest, the “Camping Haven” Shizhu Qianye Grassland, the “Realistic Utopia” Youyang Peach Blossom Land, and the “Pearl of the Yangtze River” Zhongxian County Shibaozhai (Stone Treasure Stronghold) captivated significant interest among students. Local delicacies like Liangping braised duck and Tujia-Style oil tea soup also won enthusiastic praise, with students saying they were  “delicious!”

During the “Cultural Tourism Quiz with Prizes” segment, students participated enthusiastically, winning tickets to top attractions and a variety of gifts. An international student from Myanmar shared, “Through this event, I learned about many beautiful and fun places in Chongqing. The tourism promotion officers dressed in distinctive Tujia and Miao ethnic attires were a visual highlight. After hearing their introductions, I’m really eager to visit Youyang.”

Empowering Young Students to Fully Express Traditional Chinese Culture and Beautiful Landscapes

Notably, this event went beyond conventional cultural tourism promotion by integrating city branding with talent cultivation, shifting from one-way dissemination to two-way empowerment.

Li Xiaohui, Associate Dean of the School of Foreign Languages and Cultures, Chongqing University stated that no matter where the students come from—whether from China or any other part of the world—being in Chongqing means they should understand and appreciate Chongqing, which in turn leads to understanding China and telling China’s story well. Young students should be encouraged to fully express traditional Chinese culture and beautiful landscapes, helping the world to understand China and allowing China to contribute to the diversity of the world. This is the mission of our talent cultivation: to enable students to “Think Globally, Act Locally.”

It is reported that series of activities will continue to be carried out at other universities in Chongqing, including Southwest University, Southwest University of Political Science and Law, and the School of Foreign Languages and Cultures, Chongqing University. At the same time, an online campaign titled the “Student Experience Plan” will also be launched. In its first phase, the plan will integrate key scenic resources from districts and counties such as Changshou, Liangping, Zhongxian, Shizhu, and Youyang, offering youth-themed travel routes. University students will be invited to visit these scenic spots, using a multidimensional promotion model of “offline experience + online promotion” to tell the fascinating story of Chongqing to the world.

Moving forward, the event’s organizer—Window for International Exchanges of Chongqing Culture & Tourism (WICT)—will continue to serve as a municipal-level platform for international cultural and tourism services. It will further strengthen resource integration and cooperation between universities and local communities, build a talent pool for cross-cultural tourism promotion, and reserve a diverse range of talents to support Chongqing’s development into a world-renowned tourist destination.
