From November 3 to 7, the 2025 Chongqing International Travel Agent Conference, a major local international cultural and tourism event, was held. Hosted by the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development and co-organized by the governments of ten districts and counties (autonomous counties) of Chongqing, including Shapingba District and Yuzhong District, the conference attracted consular officers from eight countries based in Chongqing and Chengdu; representatives from government departments, major travel agencies, airlines, and industry associations from nearly 40 countries and regions; and representatives from tourism authorities and enterprises of Hunan Province, Sichuan Province, Xizang Autonomous Region, and others, totaling about 400 participants.
Fiji served as the Guest Country of Honor at this year’s conference. The signing ceremony showcased new breakthroughs in intercontinental cooperation and highlighted the strong momentum of Chongqing’s districts and counties in “going global.” During the event, the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development of the People’s Republic of China and Tourism Fiji signed the Memorandum of Understanding Between Tourism Fiji and Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development of the People’s Republic of China, under which the two sides will carry out extensive cooperation in tourism information exchange, tourism promotion and marketing, and partnerships between tourism enterprises. The Shapingba District Commission of Culture and Tourism Development signed a cooperation agreement with the Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association and reached preliminary cooperation intentions with several Malaysian tourism enterprises, paving the way for attracting the municipality’s first Malaysian-funded travel agent.
Josaia Rayawa, Board Director of Tourism Fiji, said that Fiji looks forward to building deeper connections with global travelers and is committed to creating tailored experiences for visitors who value quality and appreciate adventurous experiences. “Chongqing’s tourism sector has seen strong growth in recent years and has full potential to become a world-renowned destination for international visitors,” said Marcel Leijzer, Deputy Director of the Department of International Development and Cooperation of UN Tourism. As a representative of the foreign consular officers in Chongqing, Kyaw Zay Yar Lin, Consul-General of Myanmar in Chongqing, remarked that Myanmar hopes to further deepen cultural and tourism exchanges with Chongqing under the framework of the Lancang-Mekong Tourist Cities Cooperation Alliance.
At the conference, the representative of the Chongqing Municipal Health Commission highlighted the “Chongqing Health Tourism” International Medical Integrated Service Platform, which features a combination of medical coordination and cultural and tourism services. Chongqing General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection elaborated on the ten new immigration and exit-entry administration measures launched by the National Immigration Administration. The Exit-Entry Administration of the Chongqing Municipal Public Security Bureau introduced facilitation measures for port visas and accommodation registration. The Chongqing Branch of the People’s Bank of China presented the Guidance of Payment Services in Chongqing. The guidance covers key procedures such as entry clearance, accommodation registration, and payment for consumption, providing convenient services for inbound travelers arriving directly at their first-stop city in China or transferring onward through Chongqing.
In addition, the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development conferred the title of “2026 Chongqing Culture and Tourism Promotion Ambassador” to five international friends who have made notable contributions to promoting Chongqing’s cultural and tourism offerings. At the opening ceremony, the Chongqing Professional Committee for Foreign-Language Tour Guides was officially inaugurated. As the first provincial-level committee of its kind in China, it is expected to significantly enhance the experience of international travelers in Chongqing.
During the conference, participating international travel agents toured various districts and counties of Chongqing, as well as medical institutions, theaters and art troupes, golf courses, automobile enterprises, and hot spring resorts, conducting field visits to experience the charm of “Majestic Landscapes, Charming Chongqing.” These visits helped lay the foundation for deeper cooperation and further support Chongqing’s efforts to develop into a world-renowned cultural and tourism destination and an international consumption center.
